Early Granger, b. 1790, pastel on canvas

The image area of the painting is 23.5" by 19.5". It is hung with Early's cane across the top of the frame in eyehooks. The cane is likely the same mentioned in a Brooklyn Eagle newspaper article on his 90th birthday celebration. The cane measures 33.25". The painting was kept in a farmhouse attic for years, and is in good condition.

The painting is as "washed-out" looking as it seems in the photos. A note from my grandfather, kept with the painting states that it is pastel on canvas. It also states that Early Granger's hair was white, his eyes dark brown, and his complexion "fair". It also states that the house pictured was on Springfield Road in Jamaica, Long Island. - Courtesy Ian Williams
