Notes |
- Family oral history has it that the family originally went to Canada from England, and moved down to Connecticut. Robert’s Certificate of Naturalization give Boston as the port of arrival, with a date of 1 August 1879. William Clark and William Jordan, both of Stonington, CT were his witnesses.
After first working for Browns Cotton Gin in New London , Robert worked as a machinist first for New London Northern Railroad , and then for Standard Machine in Mystic. When his son’s doctor advised him to see to it that the boy lived his life in the outdoors, he became a fisherman. Son William, spent most of his life fishing out of Mystic/Stonington, CT.
Robert became a US citizen 17 September 1890 in Hopkinton, Washington, R.I. [1, 4]
