    • Children’s last names in parenthesis are as recorded in the Baptismal Record, RDC Paramus

At some point in the 19th century, the name form of this branch of the family was variously recorded in different ways, with T-O-E-R-S largely abandoned, and TURSE more commonly used, although TUERS is also found until late in the century

The succession of ownership of the family property on Werimus Road is described in this excerpt from the Relics Newsletter in 1972:

The sandstone house was the original residence of Lawrence Tuers, the first of the family in the Woodcliff Lake area, who was living here by 1756 and one of the owners through whose land Werimus Road was laid in 1760. He was taxed for a farm of 139 acres. When he died in 1803, the homestead and south third of the land were devised to his son Arie who also resided there until his death. He was killed by a wagon wheel on January 20, 1826, survived by his widow and a son named Lawrence. After the latter’s death, a court division granted the homestead and 7 ½ acres to Lawrence’s oldest son Aaron. Philip West bought the farm in 1856 and resided here until he sold to Christian E. Felter in 1885. Felter subsequently built the existing frame house in two sections and the old sandstone was torn down to make room. An old smoke house formerly stood to the northeast of the present house until after 1952, when it and the large barns also vanished in the path of progress, [6]
