52 1. My Grandfather by Robbie Holliday

George MacDonald, my grandfather, was born in Cherryfield, Maine. He liked nothing better than spending a week in the Maine woods with some men. They tapped the maple trees for syrup. Many times his dog would go with him, coming back full of porcupine needles.

He moved to Noank at the age of 21. He went to work at the Robert Palmer shipyard. He did the joiner work on the vessels, such as building pilot houses. He built the railroad floats for the Delaware & Lackawanna Railroad Company to carry trains across the river.

He built some of the first houses at Groton Long Point after the activities of the shipyard ceased.

He had charge of the actual work done on the ship Morgan an old whaler. He had been a ships carpenter for the past forty years. The boat was put in a concrete cradle at the estate of Colonel H. R. Green. Colonel Green wanted to eave the vessel looking as antique as possible, so my grandfather left everything that was safe to walk on untouched. He fixed the mast and deck. The boat was taken to Colonel Green's estate and is not open so that people who wish may go aboard it.

He liked all kinds of animals. He had squirrels, hawks, and raised pheasants. He liked dogs best of all. He trained his dog to go home from the shop and bring back whatever he wanted.

There is a Harold Brown with Anna and Robert in Orangetown NY in 1930

Harold Brown married Anna Cavagione in Orangetown, Rockland County

could Brown be Bromm? it looks possible from the 1930 census image but how does that explain the marriage license which most likely is Brown and not Bromm?
see census details for Anna Cavagione near bottom below

on further review, this 1929 marriage appears to be them
Emilia A Cavagione gives mortgage to Anna Bromm in 1930

so now is this Anna Brown in 1930 on Bell Rd in Orangetown NY the widowed Anna Bromm in 1940 on Cottage St in Nanuet? And, if so, what happened to son Robert Bromm b 1929?

upon further research, it is most likely the same Anna.

By 1900 Census, there is no change in his status - both he and his sister are the only ones in the household. In 1910, he has moved in with his brother, Simon, and Dorcas is no longer listed in the household. TUERS, Ezra (I4201)

Thrown From A Wagon -- About seven o'clock last evening a horse attached to a light wagon, owned by Amos FREE, of Jamaica Street, took fright in Atlantic Street, and ran off, coming in contact with a lamp post at the corner of Bond street, throwing Mr. FREE out of the vehicle, who cut his head severely. He, however, was able to reach his destination, but the wagon was badly broken.

76 1870 Census, Belleville, Essex, NJ Ellen F Tuers, age 17, is living in Martha Vreeland, age 50, household. Other household members: Rosa Vreeland, age 35. Relationships not shown in this Census.

Martha’s sister, Elizabeth, was married to Jerred Tuers. Both were deceased by 1870. We have not established the relationship with Ellen as of 28 Dec 2010 when we reviewed the Census online, but we our best guess is that she may be d/o Jerred Tuers and Elizabeth Vreeland. Martha Vreeland died a few months after the June 1870 Census date in Belleville, NJ

84 1880 Census Ramapo, Rockland, NY 058 finds Jemima L Ackerson, wife in household of David D. Ackerson. In addition to Ackerson children, George age 17, Clara age 14, and David age 6 months, there are two step-children, Frederick Conklin age 7, and Emma G. Conklin, age 5. This would indicate a previous marriage for Jemima. From this clue, our preliminary search finds Jemima L Conklin, age 23 living with Janson Conklin at Ramapo, Rockland, NY in the New York Census 1875. Children listed are Frederick age 2, and Sarah age 0.

87 1880 Census shows William as widowed, living in San Jose, Santa Clara, CA with father, Joseph, age 62; son, Harry age 8; and, daughter, Grace, age 6

In the Jan 1901, Pacific Reporter, the California Supreme Court case of Tuers v. Tuers was reported. The divorced wife of William G. Tuers, Martha J. Tuers filed suit because William had deeded title of his property to his daughter Grace Patterson, and her husband. The court found in William’s behalf since he did not have knowledge, at the time, of his wife’s filing for divorce.

Another account of Santa County History notes that while brother John became a professional entertainer, Billy Tuers remained in Santa Clara, but participated in many amateur theatricals. It also noted that he was blind in his later years.
